I can't help but feel nostalgic around Hallowe'en--remembering the first time my son came running from a house with his two cousins ecstatically informing my husband and me that after knocking on the door THEY GIVE YOU CANDY!!!

I always loved surprising my students with their individual pumpkins and so enjoyed the ensuing carving lesson, despite the overwhelming and eventually sickening pumpkin smell that indubitably permeated the school. I truly savoured the evening giving out candy and still remember the sadness when I was too unwell to do so.

My son rarely went out on Hallowe'en, and we don't live where trick-or-treaters visit, so that part of Hallowe'en is a distant memory, but thinking about people with young children right now reminds me of how much I miss being around young children and enjoying life through their eyes.

We all could benefit from being around people enjoying a first of anything--whether young or old, a new experience brings a certain delight in humans that is an excitement rarely duplicated. I try to look at the sunrises and sunsets each day to give me that bit of something new and unexperienced. Each sunrise and sunset is different enough to provide that "something new" delight in my life.

I hope you search for and find that "something new" delight for yours.
