So I have all of my 5 University offers; one of the degrees being a combined degree which includes creative writing. However one thought I keep having is... actually how creative do you have to be to take creative writing?

I mean, I have my offer made, but they don’t know how creative I am at writing, they don’t know what they’re letting themselves in for if I turn out to be a load of rubbish.

The thing that scares me the most about the part of the course (if I choose this particular one) is that I can’t get out a text book and learn it. I can’t literally revise by memory creative writing. Of course you can keep writing, and keep reading, and practice will increase your writing abilities i'm sure, but for the most part people have the creative flare in them or they don’t. Don't they?

And I’m just really worried that maybe I don’t, or don’t have enough for that matter. Sure I enjoy writing, and I enjoy reading, but I’ve never wrote anything lengthy or to fit a certain genre- I’ve just always wrote what I wanted to write; just always wrote the thoughts that came into my head without thinking about them too much.

A part of me says go for it, you’ll learn how to be a better writer. That it doesn’t matter how good you are as long as you enjoy it.

But the larger self-doubting side of me says you won’t be as good of a writer as the rest, you won’t be as creative as them- don’t take the risk, you don't want to fail your degree.

Do you really have to be the best writer with masses of natural creativity in order to even consider taking creative writing? I wish i knew the level of skill expected, required even. I really would like to choose this particular course...

I just hope that I am creative enough.

I just hope that I would be good enough.
