Blues for a King You Tube Song Link
by Dave Stahl

You’re more than a little too young to remember,
The shame of what this country used to be.
Swaying in the southern wind,
For no reason but the shade of their skin,
Strange fruit hangin’ high up in the trees.

He was a man, a myth, and a martyr
He was a wise man and a King,
He said his words so plain and clear,
Truths that Jim Crow never ever wanted to hear,
When that rich voice boomed,
We could hear the angels sing.

The fight for justice shall go on and on,
As the circle of hate just keeps on spinning around,
Someday we shall overcome
With Love

He had a vision from the mountaintop.
In his dream he saw the brotherhood of man,
In a world where love and kindness would rule the day,
Where all the brothers and the sisters could have their say
All of us were watchin’,
We thought there was a master plan.

The gunmen went and took him down in Memphis
So may believe that it was the powers-that-be,
When he fell, the whole world cried,
The angels wept, a generation died,
Just for tellin’ the truth,
That all people must be free

The fight for justice shall go on and on,
As the circle of hate just keeps on spinning around,
Someday we shall overcome
With Love
