AUTHOR’S NOTE
My title stems from the assumption that because I am white or because I am millennial, or even just young, discredits some of my opinions, thoughts, beliefs. People who are older telling me that I do not understand. People of a different race telling me that I cannot relate to them. And unfortunately, I believe this type of unjust discredit happens to A LOT of me for various reason. People basically telling you there is a barrier you cannot cross to understand another human unlike yourself. I am not saying all older people say this. I am not saying that all people of a different race discredit my opinion about race-related topics because I am white. In fact, most people I have met, in person, do not. However, it still happens. Even just one out of five still hurts. I just want to say, everyone can find a way to understand and relate to another person. You just have to know a person. Know a person’s story. On the surface, most people are different. People always judge a person’s surface value. I say, f*** that. Know a person’s story. Then tell me you cannot connect with, relate to, or understand another person. Regardless of first impressions or face value. Therefore, here is my story...
