Deep Water

I dove into deep water and I found I couldn’t swim,
Now I wonder if I’ll ever reach dry land again,
The tide is rising fast and the fog is rollin’ in,
Night is fallin’, and I can’t find a soul to call my friend.

I jumped into this ocean, a few keepsakes, sound of mind,
I thought that I could make it ‘cross but I’m worried about the time,
The salt, it stings my eyes, or is it tears that make me blind?
No lighthouse, and no landmarks but for those left far behind.

I’m a sailor on this ocean, this sea of lonely hearts,
When I heard the music in the mist, my whole world fell apart,
A sailor on this ocean, who heard the siren’s song,
I need to find my way back home, I’ve been away for far too long.

I’m drownin’ in deep water, won’t you please throw me a line,
I’m drownin’ in deep water, looks like I’ve run out of time.
I’m drownin’ in deep water, hear the fury and the sound,
I’m drownin’ in deep water, And I think I’m goin’ down.

I left port to find my freedom, in the splendor the sea,
But I can’t navigate this ocean far too vast in front of me,
Chained inside this vessel, chart and compass on my knee,
Why can’t I discover where in hell I’m supposed to be?

How can I get back to the place I used to know,
To the land where we shared laughter, and our love began to grow?
It’s back behind me somewhere, but it’s a long, long way to swim,
If I find that magic place, I’ll never leave again.
