The young, it seems, have always been
too reckless and too bold,
As if they’ll never feel life's ravages,
or the ailments of the old.
As if every year weren’t shorter,
As if their youth’s not on the wing.
Taking time for granted
As if it’s not a fleeting thing
It’s easy then, when all your friends,
Can celebrate youth’s glory,
Lingering in the seasons when,
each day’s a brand new story.
These friends may have departed,
Before the days grow dark and cold.
Still we’re grateful that the young remain
so reckless and so bold.
