My Road

I saw you today,
At that upscale cafe,
Sharing words with that handsome man at the bar,
In a gesture so sweet, and so grand.
He gently reached for your hand,
Your smile, it shone just like a star.

Tell me how could you leave
In the shadow of the night
With that man who breaks hearts as a game?
By the time you’ve caught on,
Like the wind he’ll be gone
He won’t even remember your name

Someday, you’re gonna travel my road
Someday, I’ll see you here again,
I’ll hear you, calling up the mountain,
Like some dear old friend.

Like a nova you burst in my heavens so bright,
I yearned for you right from the start.
When the flames clear you’ll see
The essence of me,
A black hole
Where there should be a heart.

Someday, you’re gonna travel my road
Someday, I’ll see you here again,
I’ll hear you, calling up the mountain,
Like some dear old friend.
You never let me know it didn’t work any more.
Just found yourself a new man
and walked out the door.

If you never again drive my road up the hill
I won’t stop wondering what came apart,
Unless you come home,
I’ll wander alone,

In that place where there once was a heart.
In that place where there once was a heart.
In that place where there once was a heart.
