In the quiet and the stillness, we wake. Curled together, comfortably uncomfortable knowing it's time to wake up but not ready to leave the warmth and safety of the dark. The unquestionable steadiness of your breathing lingers so I know you are still caught in dreams. Life begins to hum, the birds sing, cars echo in the streets below, trash cans roll against pavement but still, I stay and watch you because your eyes move beneath your lids telling me you’re dreaming. So I wonder. I wonder where your mind takes you when your body rests, I wonder if I am there too and I wonder if there, in the place in your head your better off than we are here.
I want to escape with you, trapped beneath the covers. So I stay just a little while longer feeling your skin against mine, wanting to stay but having to go.
