It is early Saturday morning and as I stare at my computer screen exhaustion suddenly begins to grab a foothold. Last night was a late one for me. I tuned into one of my favourite movies, "The Shawshank Redemption". I have to confess that I am an addict when it comes to channel surfing and I just could not find anything suitable to watch. Drinking tea and giving my right thumb a good workout on the remote control I suddenly whispered, 'Finally!' as "The Shawshank Redemption" appeared in the film listings.

Tim Robbins the actor who played Andy Dufresne in the movie was really good. His name was pronounced du fraine and by the same token my name is Andy Freyne without the du part! Well, as I started to watch the movie I began to escape into his world and suddenly found myself confined to a prison cell with him sharing his harsh treatment and loss of hope as he sought to find his way around the penal system. I look upon him as the quiet one, the one no one understands and I suppose I relate to him like that.

"The Shawshank Redemption" was, is and always will be a fantastic work of creative fiction. Stephen King really had his eggs for breakfast that morning as his creative juices began to flow! Ouch, this is beginning to sound like a review, to some extent it is but mainly it's about me relating to the movie.

I suppose I live in my own created prison cell. There are no bars holding me in. There is no guard keeping his eagle eyes on me. My mind acts as my jailer! Me and Andy Dufresne should have been brothers although I probably lack his knowledge about banking and tax laws! Watching "The Shawshank Redemption" made me think that it is okay to be an individual, it is okay not to follow the pack and it is okay to be different! As I watched and became engrossed in the movie I suddenly built new friendships and acquaintances in the form of good old Red and Andy Defresne not forgetting that loveable rogue Brooks. Seeing poor Brooks being released after so many years, institutionalised, not being able to survive in the outside world, what a story. Yes, last night I served my little spell of hard time but at least I was not alone with having those three characters around me.

What a crazy thought! Movies do it for you don't you think? They take you there. "The Shawshank Redemption", that will forever be at the top of my list of favourite movies.
