You look beautiful in the evening light,
The way your skin glows effortlessly,
The way your deep eyes seem to read me,
Your dark hair draws attention to your features
Like an outline.

As you breathe I am captured,
Intoxicated for a second,
Captured by the thoughts and emotions cascades into my lips,
Before I steal them, not allowing them to be heard,
And instead let us hold the silence.

How can I be so lucky?
I stare at you suddenly terrified of losing you,
That this second will stop,
That I will wake up, and we never existed.
Suddenly I fear life without you,
Trying to hold you, hoping I will never again have to be recalling what it feels to be within your arms,
Instead that I will be able to be here forever with you,
Always getting the joy to pull you in,
To breathe you in,
To feel you with my fingers, not my memories.

For a second I see our future, the children, the house,
The holidays, the dinners, the walks to school, work, nowhere.
Our words knit together in front of us, a beautiful patchwork quilt of plans, dreams, hopes.
In your hand, I see my ring glistening, a reminder of the brightness of how we see our future.
It's all in front of us, the past, at least in that second, locked behind.
And we smile together, excited children in the playground,
No longer playing at weddings,
No longer watching words,
No longer wondering will we? Instead knowing- we will.
