The fateful journey of Tuesday July 17, 2014 ended the lives of 298 victims of Malaysian Airlines Flight17 hit by a missile and brought it crashing down spreading the debris over an area in war torn Ukraine. The tragedy sent shockwaves throughout the world as people cannot come to terms with the situation that innocent people on a holiday trip or usual business engagements should have met with such a horrific ending. The event has compacted demand for international justice of many countries.

Soon after the crash US President Barrack Obama in a statement claimed to have evidence of Russian involvement and hinted at imposing more stringent sanctions on Russia. In an interview on CBS, US Secretary of State John Kerry stated on July 20, 2014 that there is an ‘enormous amount of evidence that weapons used to shoot the Aircraft down were provided by Russians to the rebels in Ukraine’. Moreover, US intelligence officials claimed that the military plane shot down three days earlier had been fired upon from inside Russian territory by the same sort of missile used to bring down the civilian aircraft.

US intelligence suggests that Russians created a situation by arming rebels with sophisticated weaponry which led to this tragic incident. Reports also suggest that Ukrainian rebels targeted the passenger aircraft Malaysian flight hit by SA11 surface to air missile by “mistake” and in a renewed statement said that Russia had no knowledge or connection with downing the aircraft.

The belongings of passengers of ill-fated crashed aircraft, Children’s toys, wedding-rings of the dead, money and anything of value were looted on the ground. The callous scavengers had no mercy even to ascertain if anyone was still alive needing help since they were the first to arrive on the scene.

Holland with maximum casualties (173) has stressed for an international inquiry of the incident to uncover every detail of the downed aircraft. Authorities in Netherlands believe that Holland should be part of international investigating team to probe into the incident. In the meantime it is reported that the European security body to run the investigation was denied access to the site of debris by pro-Russian separatists.

A lone Canadian victim, medical student of Ontario Andrei Anghel 24, was on a holiday trip with his German girlfriend that was never to take place, unfortunately. Anghel, as reported, has been very active and well known in the community and grieved community members want to create a memorial in his name like a newly planted tree, a park bench along with a plaque.

A report of voice.pk from Toronto says the daughter of a Dutch father Elsemiek of Hans de Borst in an open letter to those responsible for shooting down the MH17 called his daughter “loved and only child”. She, he further wrote, was travelling with her younger brother, mother and stepfather. The distressed father wrote “I hope you are proud to have shot her, amongst other, young life and future”. Intriguingly, the word terrorism was missing right from start to the end of this whole lamentable drama.

Many on the international level believe that a blame game has gained momentum and shifting of responsibility from Ukrainian government to pro-Russian separatists and vice versa is allowing the dust to settle and with the passage of time the sorry episode might be forgotten. In a fresh statement the Ukrainian rebels held Ukraine responsible for the dastardly act. The loss of precious innocent lives for no fault is very painful for relatives and friends to bear and their memories will definitely haunt them for a very long time.
